A NON-DESERTER DESERTING

United States soldier, named John Henderson, was arrested night before last, by some of the River Police as a deserter and confined in the Hammond street station house. The next morning the officers repaired to the Newport Barracks and informed the powers there of the arrest, but they were informed that, as Henderson had not been absent from three roll calls, he could not be considered a deserter.

The police then returned to the city (Cincinnati) and released Henderson, who made a rapid departure from the city, with the evident design of becoming a deserter, if he was written one. Before this he is probably beyond the reach of the authorities.
