Judge John Hayden Nelson
From the Kentucky Times Star November 5, 1889
Judge John H Nelson, one of the oldest residents of Campbell County, died last Sunday November 3, 1889 at the residence of his son, Colonel R W Nelson, in this city of Newport, from general debility. The deceased was eighty-eight years of age, and was born 22 August 1801 and raised in Campbell County, near Alexandria, and moved to Newport about twenty years ago.
He was an attorney of prominence, and served a term as County Judge. He retired from active service as an attorney some ten years or more ago. Judge Nelson was a man of fine attainments, and of loving, cheerful and considerate of all around him, ever kind and helpful to his neighbors. His long life was an unfailing source of pleasure and profit to the home circle, to the community and county at large.
His estimable wife, who has shared life's fortune with him for over fifty years, and who bore him a goodly family of two sons and two daughters, yet lives to honor his name.
His funeral took place this morning from the
residence of his son Colonel R W Nelson on Park Avenue and was largely attended.
Rev Williamson, pastor of the Madison Street Christian Church, and Rev Dr. Hall
conducted the services, after which the remains were conveyed to Evergreen
cemetery for interment.
