AGED NEWPORT RESIDENT
While kneeling at his devotions at mass yesterday at Corpus
Christi Church, Newport, John Dufhues, 66, was fatally stricken with paralysis
of the heart, and before he could be carried into the parsonage of Rev Kolopp,
adjoining the church, life was extinct.
Dufhues seemed to be in good health and had accompanied his wife to 8 o'clock mass. He took his accustomed place in the family pew and was participating in the service when he suddenly gasped and fell back unconscious. Confusion reigned among the other worshipers and Father Kolopp hurriedly terminated the mass and Dufhues was removed to the priest's house. Here it was found that he and expired and Coroner Higgins was notified. He reviewed the remains and returned a verdict of death due to cardiac paralysis.
The deceased was a cooper by trade and leaves six children. He resided at 312 Chestnut st.
