John Clacey
Cincinnati Daily Enquirer, Wednesday, 20 July 1870, page 7
About eleven o'clock on Monday night, a young man named John
Clacey fell asleep while leaning against the railing of a second story porch at
Madison House (formerly Oakwoods Tavern) on Monmouth street, Newport, between
Harris and Williamson and the rail breaking, he fell to the ground, a distance
of about thirty feet, fracturing his skull and breaking his neck.
Esquire Maphet summoned a jury and held an inquest over the body. A verdict in accordance with the above facts was rendered. Deceased had been to a funeral and came home slightly under the influence of liquor. He was an employee of the Newport and Cincinnati Bridge Company and had the reputation of being an industrious and worthy young man.
