NEWPORT
Lightning also struck the chimney on John Brickler's home at
Claryville, destroying it. Several other barns and houses in the upper end of
the county were struck, but none of the others were badly burned.
The storm in the southern end of the county was accompanied by a severe electrical display that lasted for some time. In Newport the rain was unusually heavy, but there was not lightning.
