Death closed early Friday the career of J Edward Boltz, prominent Newport attorney and former Campbell County judge, who died at his home, 634 Maple avenue, Newport, following a month's illness. He was 71. In 1913 Mr. Boltz was electd county judge. During his four year term he established the juvenile Court and brought about freeing the Licking pike of tolls.

After completing his service on the county bench, Mr. Boltz became connected with the Portland Cemetery Association in a promotional capacity and continued in that position for 17 years. Mr. Boltz then returned to Newport and resumed the practice of law. He was a Republican. Mr. Boltz was active at one time in the Knights of Pythias and was also a member of the Junior Order.

He leaves a widow, Mrs. Laura De Vaux Boltz; one son, Edward Wert Boltz, who was associated with him in the practice of law; one brother Dr. A W Boltz and one sister, Miss Katherine Boltz, retired principal of Arnold School, Newport. Another son, Jack Boltz, who served in the air corps in World War II was killed in action when his plane was shot down over France.

Walter J Burke, president of the Campbell County Bar Association said a meeting of the group will be held Saturday following the motion docket in Judge Ray L Murphy's Court to name pall bearers and pass resolutions on the death of the association member.
