Man is Found Dead Kneeling in Newport Jail
Kneeling beside the cot in his cell in the Newport jail, John
Barnes, age 36, a laborer, of Ft. Thomas, was found dead this morning. The
man came to the jail yesterday morning and a charge of safe-keeping was placed
against him.
At 9 o'clock this morning he seemed to be all right, and at 10 o'clock, when Deputy Jailer Ed Harvey went into the cell, he found the man kneeling as though in prayer. In a second Harvey discovered that the man was dead. Coroner Digby was called and sent the body to Radel's undertaking establishment. Death is believed to be due to heart trouble. Barnes was single and lived in the rear of 202 Ft. Thomas-av. He has a brother named Edward Barnes living in the Highlands.
