DEATH
Joe Riggles, one of the best known men in Campbell County, died
yesterday in his shanty boat on the Ohio River at the mouth of Willow Run in
Covington. He was 60 years of age, a noted wing shot and a mechanical genius in
the art of making guns. He bore a marked resemblance to "Buffalo Bill" wearing
long, flowing hair, with fierce black mustache to match. He was a great hunter
and sportsman and spent most of his life in the forests or on the streams.
He had a reputation of being able to hypnotize all kinds of wild animals and only a short time ago went into a cage in Newport containing a large wildcat that been starved for days in the hopes of making it fight.
The father of the deceased was a pioneer settler in Campbell County, Kentucky and for years had charge of the toll gate on the Alexandria pike at Cold Spring. The body was removed to Donnolly Home undertaking in Newport to await the claim of relatives. His brother-in-law, Chris Weber, is also a well known resident of Campbell County.
