Uncle Sam thought so much of a woman's stenographic and typewriting ability that he offered her $1000 a year for service in the Agriculture Department at Washington. The lucky woman is Miss Jessie A Walker, 22, of 707 Monroe st. Newport.
Miss Walker recently took the civil service examination and passed with a high average. She is a graduate of the Alexandria High School. At the age of 17, she was granted a first class school teacher's certificate. She taught four years at Grays Hill. She will leave Monday for Washington.
Miss Walker's brother is Russell Walker, Campbell County Game Warden. She is well known throughout the county.
