Jesse Niles (Powder) Tannehill, 82, a former major league southpaw pitcher and lifetime resident of northern Kentucky, died early Saturday. His home was at 408 Dayton avenue, Dayton Ky. Tannehill started and ended his career with the Reds but gained his greatest fame in between with Pittsburgh and the Boston Red Sox. His last year in baseball, 1911, was with Cincinnati and he started one game with no decision.
He was a 20 game winner in six different seasons. With the Pirates he was 24-14 in 1898, 23-14 the next season, 20-8 in 1900 and 21-6 in 1902. With the Red Sox he was 21-11 in 1904 and 22-9 the following year. Tannehill also played with the Yankees and Senators. His lifetime league record was 195 won and 118 lost.
His brother, the late Lee Ford Tannehill was a major league pitcher for the White Sox from 1903 to 1912.
Mr. Tannehill is survived by his widow, Beulah, who lives at the Dayton address. Vonderhaar and Stetter, Newport is handling the funeral.
