NEWPORT
MAJOR JAMES WALLACE, the ex-jail guard, has received an appointment as guard in the Treasury Department at Washington. The position can only be filled by an ex-union soldier and as Mr. Wallace was a soldier and a member of the GAR he was at once recommended for the position.
The position pays a salary of $60 a month.
