James G and Minerva Tucker
James G Tucker, a steamboat man, was born in December 1823 in Jamestown, Virginia. He married Minerva Forester who was born 26 March 1832 also in Virginia. James and Minerva are first listed in the 1856 Newport City Directory and he is a mate. He tried his hand at a few other jobs, as a farmer and a stable owner, but when it was burned out twice he returned to the steamboat trade. On 22 June 1867 James was contracted to furnish stone and gravel to cover the public landing.
He enlisted in the Civil War in the 10th Tennessee Infantry in June 1862 in Nashville and served until July 1865 mustering out in Nashville, withthe rank of Second Sergeant.

James died 25 June 1902 in Newport and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery. Minerva died 27 September 1910 in Newport and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery with her husband.
