PFC James A Tilton, 21, son of Mrs. Irene Smith, of 838 Dayton street, Newport, was wounded in action Dec 6 while serving with the infantry in Germany, it was learned here. Entering the Army in January 1943, he was sent overseas in June 1944. He attended Newport Catholic High School prior to his joining the service.

Staff Sergeant James A Tilton, son of Mrs. Irene Smith, 28 E
Ninth street, Newport, has been transferred from Headquarters, Fifth Air Force,
Seoul Korea, to Castle Air Force Base, Merced, Calif. reporting at the latter
station this month.
Sergeant Tilton entered service in November 1945. A former student at Newport Catholic High School, he is an intelligence operations specialist in the Air Force. Castle Air Force Base, his new home station, is located in California's San Joaquin Valley and is the home of the 93d Bombardment Wing, a B-50 Superfortress unit. Seoul was the home of Sergeant Tilton for 10 months.
A veteran of overseas service in Europe, he has been awarded the combat infantryman's badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal.
