Dr. Donald Stevens, Campbell county coroner, returned a verdict of suicide Thursday in the death of James Roller, 30, whose body was found in the woods near Mary Inglis Highway, Ft Thomas. Mr. Roller, a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Cincinnati, apparently shot himself with a .22-caliber pistol, Richard Quehl, Ft Thomas police chief reported.
Capt. William Wright found the body after being told by John Garlinger, Mary Inglis Highway, that Mr. Rollers auto had been parked along the highway all day Wednesday. School children also reported seeing Mr. Roller sitting in the wood at 3:30 pm Wednesday with a pistol in his hand. They thought he ws hunting.
Mr. Roller, a Navy veteran of World War II, served two years in the Philippines. He was undergoing treatment at the hospital for a neverous condition. Mr. Roller, his wife, Laverne Esterbrook Roller, and their son Wayne, lived with Mrs. Roller's parents in Mt. Airy, O. during his illness. His father William Roller lives at 2395 N Ft Thomas avenue, Ft Thomas. The Radel funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
