His family has been informed that Pvt. James Hampton, 21, son of
Mr. and Mrs. John Hampton, of 315 W Eighth street, Newport, was wounded in
action in France July 19.
The Purple Heart awarded Pvt. Hampton after he was wounded has been received by his family. Pvt. Hampton, who is recuperating at a hospital somewhere in England, has been overseas for one month and was in the Army for two years.
