NEWPORT
Alderman James Southgate has presented his resignation to Mayor
Brown for that office. He gives as his reason that he does not like the bustle
and turmoil of political life and expects also to spend the most of his time at
his country home in the Highlands. Mr. Southgate made an excellent and
conscientious member of this board, always having the city's interest at heart
and his present action is to be deplored.
