James Nealeans
 

James Nealeans was born 25 Jan 1839 in Pennsylvania, the son of William Harrington Nealeans and Mary Turner. The family moved to Cincinnati in the 1850s. James was living in Newport when he enlisted in the Union Army on 6 July 1864 from Covington serving as a Corporal in Co C 53rd Kentucky Infantry.

The 53rd Kentucky Infantry was organized at Paris, Kentucky in the winter of 1864 and spring 1865. James participated in many skirmishes and in the battles of Clinch River, Marion and Saltville, Virginia, in all of which it performed its duty to the entire satisfaction of the commanding General. James was mustered out at Louisville, Kentucky, September 15th 1865.

On 30 Nov 1886 James married Fannie Eaton in Cincinnati. In the 1900 census he was living with his sister Alice. From there in 1909 he entered the Soldiers Home in Dayton O. where he died 1 Nov 1919.

Services for James Nealeans, brother of Miss Alice Nealeans, former Newport School teacher, whose death occurred Sunday at the Soldiers Home in Dayton O. were held Tuesday afternoon in the late home, 121 W 11th st. Newport. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
