Because of ill health Dr. J M Digby, Campbell co commissioner announced Monday he would not be a candidate for Campbell co coroner as he announced several weeks ago. Dr. Digby said Monday at the expiration of his present term of office he would retire from politics. He was elected coroner of Campbell co for three terms.

Stricken with heart disease two weeks ago and realizing his illness would prove fatal within a short time, Dr. James M Digby, 70, of 319 E 10th street, Newport, widely known physician and former coroner, made arrangements for his own funeral. Dr. Digby had selected his pallbearers and requested that his body lie in state in the Newport Elks Temple, 312 York street. He had served as trustee of the Elks for a number of years.
Sunday Dr. Digby died and Tuesday his body will lie in state in Elks Temple. While complete funeral arrangement have no been made, it will be conducted by William C Betz Sons, 23 e Sixth Street. At 5 pm Tuesday the remains will be taken from the funeral home of the Elks Temple where the body will lie in state until Wednesday afternoon. Dr. Digby was one of the oldest practicing physicians in Campbell county. Born at Melbourne, he later moved to Newport. He received his medical training at the Ohio Medical College, Cincinnati and graduated in 1899. He had been a practicing physician since his graduation.
Until he was stricken two weeks ago Dr. Digby was still active as a physician and as a member of the State Old Age Pension Board in Campbell county. Dr. Digby has been a prominent figure in local Democratic politics for the past 40 years. He was one of the first members of the Campbell County Fiscal Court. After serving eight years on this body he was elected coroner and served 12 years.
Dr. Digby was an adjutant under Brig. General E J McCracken in the uniformed rank of Knights of Pythias and was a member of the Kenton Campbell Medical Society, the American Medical Society and the Confederate States Medical Association. As coroner, Dr. Digby led investigations in a number of murder cases. One of the outstanding cases which Dr. Digby solved was the murder of an Augusta Ky. man whose body was placed in a box and cast adrift in the Ohio River. The body was discovered here. After a lengthy investigation Dr. Digby ascertained the victim's identity and later was responsible for the arrest and conviction of the murderer.
Dr. Digby leaves his widow, Edith; a brother, Kendall of Otseko, Mich. and four sisters, Mrs. T H Hayes, Phoenix Ariz. Mrs. R E Perkins, Prescott Ariz. Mrs. J J Croxson, Ft Thomas, and Mrs. T B McCullough, Cold Spring.

The will of Dr. James M Digby, 319 E 10th street, Newport, widely known physician and Democratic leader of Campbell county, was probated today by County Judge William C Buten. He directs that his entire estate be given his widow, Edith. The latter is named executrix.

Dr. James M Digby, former Campbell county coroner, left his estate to his widow, Edith Digby, according to his will probated yesterday before Judge William C Buten in Campbell Court. The will, dated April 8, 1910, said no inventory was to be made of the estate. Mrs. Digby was named executrix without bond.
