Lieutenant Colonel James Henton, Twenty-third Infantry, died very suddenly this week at Ft Ringgold Texas.  In 1853, Colonel Henton enlisted for the Sixth Infantry, the regiment now at Ft Thomas and was with the regiment in its celebrated march from the Missouri River to California in 1858.

Lieutenant Colonel James Henton, Twenty=third infantry, who died suddenly at Ft. Ringgold, Tex. this week, was in former year a member of the old Sixth now stationed in the Kentucky Highlands. He was at one time on duty at Newport Barracks, enlisting for the Sixth in 1893, served under Harney in his Indian expeditions, marched with the regiment on its long distance record march from Ft Leavenworth to California in 1858 and was appointed a Second Lieutenant in 1861.
