The death of ex-Squire James Flannery, a picturesque figure in Newport politics for the past half century is expected. He has been ill for some time at his home on Brighton st. with ailments incident to old age and members of his family have given up hope of his recovery. His condition at noon today was reported as critical. His relatives and acquaintances state he has passed the century mark in point of age.

Some years ago the question arose as to the year of his birth. Relatives in Ireland, where he was born, were communicated with as to the date of his birth. The baptismal records of the parish church showed that he was baptized in March 1809, which is nearly 101 years ago. Up to a year ago he was as active as a man 30 years his junior but of late his age has told on him.

Ex-Squire James Flannery will celebrate his birthday anniversary on March 3 at his home, 815 Brighton st. Newport. Just which anniversary it will be is a question. The Squire claims it will be the 103d anniversary of his birth. His relatives fix his age at 101 years in March. Squire Flannery is probably the oldest resident in Northern Kentucky and held the office of Magistrate in Campbell co. long before the present State Constitution was adopted.

Up to a few years ago he took an active part in politics.

Former Magistrate James Flannery, said to be the oldest man in Northern Kentucky, died last night at his home, 815 Brighton st. Newport, as a result of the infirmities due to old age. Squire Flannery was 101 years of age, having been born in Ireland in 1809. He leaves a widow, two sons and five daughters. He served for a number of years as a Magistrate in Newport and had been a resident of the city for over a half century.

His widow is aged 84 and it is reported that she is seriously ill over the passing away of her aged husband. The funeral will take place Tuesday morning.

Ex-Squire James Flannery, said to be the oldest resident of Newport, died suddenly last night at his home, 815 Brighton street, as a result of the infirmities due to old age, having been born in Ireland in 1809. He leaves a widow, two sons and five daughters.

He served many years as a Magistrate in Newport before the adoption of the present constitution. He was a pioneer resident of Newport, having lived in that city more than a half century. The funeral will probably take place Tuesday morning.
