NEWPORT NEWS

FIRE-On Sunday night, about eight o'clock, a frame house on Taylor street, near the Newport Barracks, was destroyed by fire.  The building had been occupied for some time by a number of women of ill repute, who were a nuisance to the neighborhood.

On Saturday night a lot of men went to the house and after ordering the occupants to leave, demolished the furniture and broke out the windows.  It is supposed some of the same party set fire to the building last Sunday night.  The property belonged to a man named James and was worth about $500.
