In one of the most spirited elections in recent history of James Wallace Costigan Post No 11, American Legion, Newport, Thursday night, J Earle Bowie, World War I veteran was elected commander. A total of 166 votes was cast. Other officers chosen are:
Fred Highhouse, first vice commander: Edward Hesch, second vice commander; Frank Pagliamento, third vice-commander; Jack Mueller, finance officer; George J Meiners, adjutant and John Nesto, sergeant at arms. Paul Schmitz, Frank Doyle, Alfred Adams and Harry Kolhoven were elected members of the Executive Board.

Services for J Earl Bowie, 70, of 223 Glazier avenue, Bellevue, vice president and general manager of the Superior Coal, Heating and Supply Co. will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at the Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Bowie who served 35 years with the concern, died Saturday at Speers Hospital. He worked until two weeks ago when he was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage. He was a native of Cincinnati and a World War I veteran.
He was a member of Henry BarnesLodge, F&AM, Dayton, which will meet at 7:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home; past commander of James Wallace Costigan Post, American Legion, Newport, which will meet at 8 and member of Bellevue Eagles, which will meet at 8:30. Friends may call from 4 to 9 pm. Mr. Bowie also a member of Belleuve Rotary Club leaves his widow, Katherine Evers Bowie, a daughter, Mrs. Jacqueline Kuhl, Alexandria; a son, Melvin Golrick and two sisters, Mrs. Jack Pille and Mrs. Jeanette Johnson, all of Bellevue and a grandchild.
