Mass for Pioneer River Man
Requiem high mass was sung at St. Peter's Cathedral Wednesday for
James H Sandford, 77, of 118 W First st. Newport, retired steamboat captain, who
died Sunday. Sandford, born at Marietta O. was one of the oldest river men in
the Ohio Valley.
For many years Sandford operated boats in Central Anerica for the United Fruit Co.
