NEWPORT
Jacob Hoffman Sr. 59, member of the Newport Board of Council from
the Second Ward, died today at 11 am at his home 216 West Fifth st. He had been
ill about a week and the direct cause of his death is not known. The present hot
spell hastened the end as he suffered considerably since Sunday from the heat.
Deceased was finishing his second term as Councilman. He had been a resident of Newport for many years and followed the profession of musician. A widow and several grown children survive him. The arrangements for the funeral have not been completed.
