Jacob Fausz was born in 8 Jan 1839 in Etschberg Germany, the son of Daniel Jacob Fausz and Phillipina Margarethe Decklar. Daniel Jacob was born 7 Dec 1812 in Etschberg and Phillipina Margarethe Decklar was born 18 Feb 1814 also in Etschberg across the street from the Fausz home stead. The family arrived in Newport in 1848. In the 1857 Newport city directory Jacob was listed as a milkman. Daniel Jacob died in Newport. Margarethe died 21 July 1881 in Newport of cholera and was buried 24 July in Evergreen Cemetery.
