Mr. and Mrs. John Grebner, 242 Ridgeway avenue, Southgate, were
notified Sunday by the War Department that their son, Pvt. Jack Grebner, had
been killed in action in the fighting on Bougainville Island, southwest Pacific.
Pvt. Grebner, who was 20 was formerly employed by the Wright Aeronautical Corp. Lockland O. before entering the service in December 1942. Sent overseas in February 1943, he was reported killed March 11, according to the report of the War Department.
He was a graduate of Newport High School and was thought to have been on scout duty in the Pacific area, his father said.

Requiem High Mass for Pfc. Jack F Grebner, killed in action in World War II, will be sung at St Theresa Church, Southgate at 9 am Wednesday, following prayers at the John J Radel funeral home, Newport, at 8:30 am. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Pfc. Grebner, who was 20 at the time of his death, was killed on Bougainville on March 11, 1944. He was an expert rifleman, and was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star medals posthumously. A former student at Newport high school, Pfc. Grebner was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Grebner, formerly of Southgate. Besides his parents, he leaves a sister, Mrs. William Baumer, Newport; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Tillie Grebner, Price Hill and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Martin, Southgate.
