Funeral Of W H Horsfall, Civil War Hero

Was Commander of William Nelson Post GAR

The funeral of William H Horsfall, 75, civil war veteran, was held Wednesday at 2 pm with services at his home 218 West Third Street, Newport.  Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Horsfall joined the union forces as a drummer boy and later took part in many engagements.  He was the author of a number of war poems.  He took an active part in the GAR.

Horsfall was commander of William Nelson Post GAR of Newport.  The funeral will be in charge of William Nelson post.  The body will be interred in the organization's lot at Evergreen.  He is survived by his widow Mrs. Lucretia Horsfall, one son, Carl Horsfall and three daughters, Mrs. George Bogart, Mrs. Charles Schweikert Newport and Mrs. Olive Guy of the state of Washington.

Members of Garfield Council No 34, Jr. O U A M of which Horsfall was a member, met at Third and York streets, Newport, Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock and held services at the late home.
