NEWPORT
DISTRICT OF HIGHLANDS-The Trustees of Highlands met on Monday,
and determined to grade and macadamize Mount Vernon avenue and the Jamestown
Road. They also changed the voting place in the district to the Armory
building, on the lands of Samuel Shaw, Esq. where the election on the 4th of May
will be held.
A vote of thanks was tendered J R Hallam, Esq. for sufficient services tendered in organizing the district. A code of by-laws was passed and ordered to be published. The next meeting will be held at the Air Home House, Saturday, 20th inst. at which time the citizens of the district are requested to assemble and select numerous persons to be voted for at the May election for Magistrates and Constable.
