Herman Quehl, 60, one of the most prominent citizens of Newport, died Thursday afternoon at his residence, 826 Central Avenue. Paralysis was the cause of his death. He was stricken Thursday morning and death followed at 4:30 in the afternoon. He was formerly an expert examine and was prominent in building association in Newport for years.

He was born in Hesse Cassel and came to America 48 years ago. He joined the army at the breaking out of the Civil War and served with Gen Sherman throughout his campaign. He participated in the battles in and around Vicksburg and in Sherman's march to the sea. At the close of the war he was married to Miss Clara Mallen and then settled in Newport.

His children are George J Quehl, the well known signwriter; Mrs. Mary E Sellew and Herman Henry and Robert A Quehl. The funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.

Herman Julius Quehl, one of Newport's best known and most substantial citizens, died yesterday afternoon at this residence, 826 Central avenue, age 60 years. Paralysis was the cause of death.

Mr. Quehl was stricken yesterday morning and death relieved him of his sufferings about 4:30 pm. He was born in Hesse Cassel and came to America 48 years ago. He joined the army at the breaking out of the Civil War and served with General Sherman throughout his campaign. He participated in the battles in and around Vicksburg, and in Sherman's march to the sea.

At the close of the war he was married to Miss Clara Mallen and then settled in Newport. Mr. Quehl was an expert accountant and held several positions of trust. His children are George J Quehl, the well known sign writer: Mrs. Mary E Sellew, Herman, Henry and Robert A Quehl.

The funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.
