Herman Kemper
Kentucky Post, Monday, 5 August 1935, page 1
Requiem High Mass will be sung Wednesday at 9 am at St Mary
Church, Alexandria, for Hermann "Daddy" Kemper, county jailer who died Saturday
at his home. He suffered a stroke of paralysis last Sunday. Undefeated as
Democratic candidate for jailer for the last 40 years, "Daddy" Kemper was one of
the most widely known figures in current Northern Kentucky political history.
In the election two years ago, despite the fact that Republicans were elected to many of the principal county offices, he defeated his Republican opponent by a 10,000 majority. Thousands of northern Kentuckians knew him personally. Prisoners committed to his care at the Campbell County Jail were accorded the courtesy of the Golden Rule. Rarely has there been trouble at the jail during his long term. He was 85.
Mr. Kemper leaves a son, Charles Kemper, who has acted as assistant jailer for many years. The body will lie in state at the Dobbling funeral home, Ft Thomas today. It will be removed tomorrow to the residence at Alexandria. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.
Mr. Kemper's wife Cora Belle Kemper, died several years ago. A daughter died last year.
