Herman Herzog

Kentucky Post, Friday, 21 August 1903, page 4

CHASE-Herman Herzog, 38, single, of Alexandria, was brought to the Newport Jail Thursday by Deputy Sheriff Ratchford, to be tried for lunacy. He has been violent for several days, it is alleged threatening to kill people until his relatives became alarmed. Thursday he was walking with a hatchet, apparently sneaking up on his relatives while they were at dinner, but he was caught before doing any damage.

When Ratchford arrived in Newport with Herzog, he left the prisoner with another man to go to notify Sheriff Reidel. Herzog, seeing the jail, jumped from the rig and ran down Fourth Street yelling like an Indian. Patrolman Frank Morton gave chase, stopped him at the point of a revolver and brought him back to the police office.
