Herbert K Flutmus, former Newport city official, of 1135 Columbia street, Newport, was found dead in bed Thursday morning in the house in which he was born 55 years ago.
The death was discovered by his daughter, Evelyn, who went to his room when he did not appear for breakfast. Mr. Flutmus had been ill for several months, it was reported.
He was for two terms Newport commissioner of public property, superintendent of Newport waterworks under three administrations and until his recent illness he was superintendent of the Campbell County Asphalt Co. He had also belonged to the Newport Eagles and the Hoop De Doo Social Club.
Besides his daughter, he leaves his widow, Mrs. Mayme Kinstler Flutmus; two sons, Kelly J and George M Fultmus, and a sister, Mrs. Bessie Quill, all of Newport.
Services will be held at 8:30 am Monday at the William G Betz Sons funeral home Newport. Requiem High Mass will be sung at 9 am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Burial will be in St Stephens Cemetery.
