Two decorations, a Silver Star and a Purple Heart, have been
awarded Pvt. Herbert H Brown, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Brown, of 1511
Alexandria Pike, Ft Thomas, for action in the Italian campaign. The citation
accompanying the Silver Star said that Pvt. Brown maintained communication lines
for the infantry outfit to which he was assigned and held out for two days
despite heavy enemy fire. Although he had suffered a wound he refused to leave
his post until ordered to do so.
He since has recovered from the injury and is now serving in Holland with the Gilder Infantry. He has been overseas for 19 months. He is an alumnus of Highlands High School and is a former employee of Rollman & Sons Co. He has two brothers also in the Army, Sgt. Alfred Brown is stationed at Oscoda, Mich. and Pvt. Edward Brown is at Maxwell Field Ala.
