The meeting of two Newport neighbors in a foxhole on the western front was described in a letter from Cpl. Henry Wietholter, former member of the Newport fire department, which was read at the meeting of the Sixth Ward Boosters Club, Newport, Monday night. Cpl. Wietholter said that while he was lying in the foxhole he recognized the voice of Jack Hunkomoeller, who lived next door to him on Thornton street, Newport. Prior to entering the Army Pvt. Hunkomoeller managed a store in Newport.
He also sent a Stars and Stripes which told of the recent action of teh "Hellcat Division" of which Cpl. Wietholter is a member. Pvt. Hunkomeller is in the Seventh Army.
