The appointment of Henry Schleuter to succeed George P Stegner in the Newport Board of Aldermen, which is said to have been decided upon by Mayor Helmbold, is likely to cause a coolness between the city's Chief Executive and the powers that control the Democratic party organization in Newport.

Henry Schleuter, recently appointed by Mayor Helmbodl to succeed Alderman George Stegner, of the Newport Board of Aldermen, took his seat at last night's meeting of that body. The board confirmed Mayor's choice by a unanimous vote.

Alderman Henry Schleuter of Newport, faced the barrel of a revolver at his home this morning and was commanded to put up his hands, which he did very quickly. He has a notion store on Columbia st. near Fifth and was aroused by strange noise downstairs. He dress and went into the store to investigate.
The police also heard strange noises and Patrolman Martin was dispatched to the store. Throwing the flash on the inside, he saw a man prowling about and thought him to be a burglar. The policeman pointed a gun and Schleuter came forward when the command was given. Explanations were made.
