DESERTER SHOT-A soldier named Henry Hodges, who deserted from the
Twenty-third Kentucky Regiment a short time ago, was shot and killed on Saturday
last, by a squad of soldiers who had been sent to arrest him at his home on
Phillips Creek, Campbell County, seven miles from Alexandria.
We learn that when the soldiers came upon Hodges and demanded his surrender he ran off a few hundred yards, and then picked up a brick. Upon being ordered to surrender the second or third time, he told them to go hell, whereupon they fired and killed him.
