Hayden McConico was born in October 1864* in Berry Station, Harrison Co Kentucky, the son of Henry H McConico.  He married Cornelia Davis 22 Nov 1883 in Newport.  Cornelia Davis was born 2 June 1862 in Virginia (now West Virginia) the daughter of James and Amanda Davis.  Hayden's father, Henry (Harry) McConico was born April 1840 in Kentucky and died 29 Aug 1910 at Speers Hospital in Dayton Ky. of rheumatism; He was buried in Evergreen. He was living at Fifth & Brighton in Newport before he died.

Henry McConico served in the 117th Colored Infantry which was organized at Covington, Ky., July 18 to September 27, 1864. He was attached to Military District of Kentucky, Dept. of the Ohio, to October, 1864. Provisional Brigade, 18th Corps, Army of the James, to December, 1864. 1st Brigade, 1st Division, 25th Corps and Dept. of Texas, to August, 1867.

Henry served duty at Camp Nelson, Ky., till October, 1864, and then was ordered to Baltimore, Md., thence to City Point, Va., October 21. He participated in siege operations against Petersburg and Richmond till March, 1865, Appomattox Campaign March 28-April 9, Hatcher's Run March 29-31, and the fall of Petersburg April 2. His regiment was in pursuit of General Lee April 3-9 Appomattox Court House April 9. He witnessed the surrender of Lee and his army. He was assigned duty at Petersburg and City Point till June, then moved to Brazos Santiago, Texas, June and July. Duty at Brownsville and on the Rio Grande, Texas, till August, 1867. Mustered out August 10.

There is a Henry McConico born 1832 in Harrison Co Ky. who married Mrs. Sarah Greathouse born 1836 in Newport on 1 June 1876 in Newport. They were married by Dennis Lightfoot, Minister of the Baptist Colored Church.

Hayden became involved in politics in Newport. The colored Republicans of Campbell County organized a Republican League Club, the first of its kind in the State, on August 12, 1891.  Hayden was one of the first to serve on the executive committee.
