The coming marriage of Miss Laura Louise Davis, formerly of Newport, and now living in Shanghai China, to Sir Robert L Alton, English nobleman of Edinburgh Scotland, was announced Tuesday by the bride elect's brother, Harvey H Davis, widely known New York artist, who is visiting Leroy Davis, Wilson rd. Bellevue. The marriage is to take place Oct 13 at the British Consulate in Shanghai.

Paul and Harvey Davis, 132 E Fifth street, Newport, were advised Tuesday by the War Department that their sister, Mrs. Laura Davis Alton and her husband Robert, have been liberated from a Jap prison camp near Shanghai.

Mr. and Mrs. Alton had been residents of Shanghai for the past 15 years. Mr. Alton has been engaged in Japan as a representative of a London steel concern. Mr. and Mrs. Alton were made prisoners of war when Shanghai fell to the Japs three years ago.

Harvey Henry Davis was born 24 Oct 1882 in Newport, the son of Andrew Jackson and Nancy (Caldwell). In the 1900 census for Newport, he lists his occupation as artist. He died 28 Aug 1953 in Hillsborough Florida.
