Masonic and military service for Staff Sergt. "Hank" Skidmore of the 10th Infantry, formerly stationed at Ft Thomas, will be held at 2:30 pm Monday at the Radel funeral home, Newport, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Sergt. Skidmore, who was 35, was reported Thursday to have lost his life at sea while on duty.
The son of a Civil War veteran, he enlisted in the Army 18 years ago. Army officials at Camp Edwards Mass. said the body had been recovered and was en route to Newport. His widow, Thea Skidmore, lives at 16 Walnut street, Southgate, with their two children, Elizabeth Ann, 6 and James Armin, 4. A musician of note, he was clarinetist and saxophonist with the famed 10th Infantry Band. He also appeared with many Greater Cincinnati dance orchestras, playing in most of the night clubs in this area.
Besides his wife and two children, he leaves a brother, James E Skidmore, Ft Knox, Ky. two half brothers, Allie Skidmore, Winchester Ky. and Jerome Skidmore, Memphis Tenn. and an uncle Col. E G Wells, who is on duty at an Arizona Army Camp.
