The fifth division in the Newport homecoming parade Wednesday will be headed by the crack Drum and Bugle Corps of the Kerston-O'Day Post, Nov 2899, Bellevue-Dayton Veterans of Foreign Wars, composed of members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Harrison R Herms, drum major of the veterans coprs, announced the corps, which has participated in five World War Nov 2 and veteran homecoming celebrations, has been awarded first prize in the drum corps contest in Kentucky and Ohio.

Services for Harrison (Harry) Herms, 65, Ft Thomas employee since 1912, will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at the Radel funeral home, Newport. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Herms, a former amateur and semi-professional baseball player, died Saturday at Ft Thomas Veterans Administration Hospital. A lifelong resident of Campbell county, he lived at 1211 S Ft Thomas avenue, Ft Thomas.

In the nearly 42 years he worked for the city of Ft Thomas, he had not missed a days work because of illness until last September. He retired Jan 1. He served as an employee in the sanitation department until he entered the Army in World War I. After his discharge he became a police officer in 1920 and served in that capacity until retirement. He once was an outstanding pitcher for the Ft Thomas Boosters basebll team and played with other semi-pro clubs.

He leaves three sisters, Mrs. Cora Hedger, Dayton; Mrs. Margaret Schack, Ft Thomas, and Miss Elizabeth Herms, at home and a brother, Joseph Herms, Dayton.
