Captain L Gordon Jenkins, who has been lying very ill of
consumption at his residence in Newport Ky. died yesterday morning at 5 o'clock.
The deceased was well known on the river and highly esteemed for many good
qualities. He commanded at one time the Memphis and Cincinnati packet steamer
Clitton, and afterward and up to a recent period, was in charge of
the office of that steamer.
He also commanded at one time the steamer, Boone, running as a packet between this city and Maysville. As a token of respect to his memory the flags on the wharf yesterday were displayed at half mast.
