NEWPORT

George A Westphalinger, 64, a well known citizen of Newport, died yesterday morning. Westphalinger was an old soldier himself and reared five sons, all of whom became soldiers. He was born in Bavaria and settled in Newport in 1888.

He enlisted in the Third Artillery at the outbreak of the Civil War and was retired after 32 years of service, with the rank of First Sergeant.

The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon and will be in charge of William Nelson Post GAR. The burial will be in the soldiers lot at Evergreen.

A SOLDIER'S FUNERAL-The funeral of George Westphalinger, an old regular soldier and the father of five soldier sons, took place yesterday afternoon. The services were held at Salem M E Church Rev Roeser officiating.

A detail of regular soldiers from Ft Thomas acted as active pallbearers and a firing squad was also detailed to fire a salute at the grave.
