Captain George W Toed

Cincinnati Commercial Tribune, Saturday, 27 February 1858, page 4

Captain George W Toed, clerk of the Woodruff and the talented editor of that spicy marine journal, the "Woodruff Bulletin" arrived here yesterday, on a visit to his family and friends in Newport. When he left the Woodruff at Hat Island, on Wednesday, she was still aground but lying in an easy and safe position, the Mississippi being full of heavy running ice.

He walked eight miles through snow when he horsed it thirty-two miles, thence taking the railway here, arriving safe and sound.
