Dr. George Horton Stewart was born 22 Oct 1819 in Bloomingburg, Sullivan Co New York, the son of Robert Stewart and Esther Raney Gillespie. Robert Stewart was born 13 July 1789 in Hagerstown Maryland and Esther Gillespie was born 10 Jan 1797 in Walden New York.
Dr. George Stewart practiced medicine in Newport as early as 1849. He married first Sophia F Newton, daughter of John Newton, 12 July 1845 in Cincinnati. She was born 1822 in Maryland, died 14 Feb 1865 in Newport and was buried in the Newport Cemetery (now Evergreen) in Southgate.
He married second Flora N Williams 26 July 1868 in Newport, daughter of William Williams and Euphemia Phillips. Flora was born 1847 in Cincinnati and died 23 Feb 1882 in Newport and was buried in Evergreen. Dr. Stewart died 1 Oct 1894 in Cincinnati of Brights disease and was buried 2 Oct in Evergreen Cemetery section 2 lot 1.
