The funeral of George Metzel, a soldier of the Civil War, was held this morning from the residence, East Fourth st. Newport. He was a charter member and Past Commander of William Nelson Post, and the officers acted as honorary pallbearers.

At the breaking out of the Civil War he enlisted with the 165th New York Zouaves and continued in the regular army up to 1878, when he retired as Quartermaster Sergeant. The active pallbearers were E O Reynolds, Charles Solar, Howard Wurlitzer, William Little, Frank Mahret and Harry Nargraf, Services were held at 8 am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The Grand Army service, conducted by William Nelson Post, took place yesterday evening at the residence.

Mrs. Margaret Metzel, 76, of 4130 Paddock rd. Cincinnati, formerly of Newport, who died Sunday will be buried Wednesday in St Stephen Cemetery, Campbell co following services at 10 am at St Agnes Church, Bond Hill.

Mrs. Metzel was the widow of George A Metzel, Civil War veteran, who died 20 years ago. She lived in Newport until six years ago. Four sons survive Mrs. Metzel. They are: George T and Walter O, Newport; Charles W, Cincinnati and Harry with whom she lived.
