CLARYVILLE
George Laste, 50, a widower, residing alone near Claryville, in
the south end of Campbell County, was accidentally killed yesterday near his
home while cleaning his shotgun. The contents of one barrel entered his thigh
and he bled to death. A trail of blood led from the scene of the accident to
Laste's bedroom where the body was found.
After the accident occurred he had dragged himself into the house. His faithful dog had followed him into the bedroom and was guarding the body when neighbors arrived. It was with difficulty the dog was driven off.
In the absence of Coroner Digby Dr. Houston was called upon to hold the inquest. Laste has two sons and two daughters residing in Newport and they were notified of his death.
