George Francis Frey

Kentucky Post, Wednesday, 31 October 1917, page 1

A letter was received by J L Diskin, Campbell co Commonwealth Attorney, from George Frey, Newport boy, who was reported seriously injured in the Canadian casualty report received here a few weeks ago. Frey confirms the report that he was injured and states he is now confined in the general hospital at Cologne, France. He says he enlisted with a Canadian troop before the American entry into the war.

He states his wounds are not serious and his nurses inform him he will again be able to go to the front line trenches in a few days. Frey writes he has received only three Kentucky newspapers since he has been in France. He was in all the big fighting during the month of August, but does not state where it was. He predicts in the letter, which evidently was written before the American troops landed on French soil, that Germany will be forced to quit fighting before the Sammies reach the trenches "French life isn't as bad as they say it is," he concludes.
