NEWPORT
Tuesday night while Mr. George Button was on his way home to
Alexandria on the pike, he was stopped by two men about seven miles from the
city. The rascals demanded his money or his life. Preferring to enjoy the sweet
air of freedom for some years longer, he very reluctantly gave up $10 in money,
all the cash he had with him.
No violence was threatened him as he made no resistance. After giving up the lucre he went quietly home.
