George H Ashford, former basketball and track star at Newport High School and Transylvania College, has reported for pre-flight training with the Army Air Forces at Miami Beach, Fla. Cadet Ashford is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G C Ashford, 21 Retreat street, Southgate. His wife, Mrs. Virginia K Henderson Ashford is a student at Transylvania.

2d Lt. George H Ashford, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. George G Ashford, of 21 Retreat street, Southgate and husband of Mrs. Virginia Ashford, of the Retreat street address, has been missing in action over Germany since Sep 28, according to a War Department telegram. Stationed as a pilot on a B-17 Lt. Ashford was serving with an Eighth Air Force unit in England.

He entered the Air Corps in February 1943 and was sent overseas in August 1944. The Ashfords have a son, Tommy, who is a year old.

Lt. George S Ashford, son of Mr. and Mrs. George S Ashford of 21 Retreat street, Southgate and husband of Mrs. Virginia Ashford, Southgate, previously listed as missing in action since Sept 28, 1944, was listed by the War Department as killed in action his family learned.

A co-pilot on a B-17 Lt. Ashford was over Magdeburg, German, when German planes attacked. His plane exploded and only the pilot managed to escape. Lt. Ashford who was completing his third mission, entered the service in February 1943. He was a member of the Golden Rule Lodge of Masons, Covington.

Besides his parents and widow, he leaves a son, Thomas B Ashford, 2. Memorial services will be held at 7:45 pm Sunday at the Fifth Street Baptist Church, Newport, with Rev Leo Drake officiating.

Lt. George H Ashford, son of Mr. and Mrs. George G Ashford and husband of Mrs. Virginia Ashford of 21 Retreat street, Southgate, has been presumed dead, the War Department has informed his family. He was listed as missing in action Sep 28, 1944, when the Flying Fortress on which he was serving as co-pilot was shot down over Madgeburg Germany.

Memorial services will be held at 7:45 pm Sunday at Trinity Baptist Church, Rev Leo Drake will conduct the service.
