George B and Mary Holmes
George B Holmes was born in 1824 in Cincinnati, the son of
William and Mary. (note; Evergreen death record says he was born in Cincinnati.
Harriet's death record says he was born in Brown Co Oh) He married Mary
Yelton 27 Mar 1849 in Newport. Mary Yelton was born 3 Aug 1828 in Camel
Kentucky, the daughter of John Philip Yelton and Esther Cathlin Caldwell.
In the 1850 census in Covington Ky. he is listed as a carpenter. In the
1860 census in Newport he is a master carpenter. In the 1870 the family is in
Carthage where he owned a farm.
George Holmes died 28 Nov 1898 in Newport and was buried in the Evergreen Cemetery. Mary Yelton Holmes died 3 Apr 1915 in Chicago and was buried in Evergreen.
